Audio Cables

Audio cables are used to connect audio components within hi-fi and home audio systems, allowing signals to be transmitted between sources, amplifiers and speakers. Depending on the signal type, audio cables carry either analogue audio signals or digital audio data. In a complete system, audio cables provide the physical links that enable individual components to operate together as a single signal chain.

Types of Audio Cables

Audio cables are broadly divided into analogue and digital categories. Analogue audio cables transmit continuously varying electrical signals and are commonly used between source components, preamplifiers and amplifiers. Digital audio cables transmit encoded audio data that is converted to analogue by a digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) at the receiving component.

Each cable type is designed for specific connection standards and system requirements. Choosing the correct audio cable depends on the input and output formats supported by the connected equipment and the role the cable plays within the overall audio system.

Analogue signal connections are covered within our range of Analogue Audio Cables, including RCA and XLR interconnects. Digital signal connections are handled by Digital Audio Cables, such as USB, S/PDIF and AES-EBU formats.
