Vinyl Record Flattening Service

Our vinyl record flattening service is the safest way of fixing warped vinyl records without damaging the grooves or compromising playback quality.

At The Groove Man, we use the Furutech DF-2 Vinyl Flat system to gently reverse heat warping and correct dished vinyl. Our service is designed for collectors, audiophiles, DJs and anyone looking to get their wax spinning right again.

What Is Vinyl Record Flattening?

Vinyl record flattening is the process of reducing warps or dish shapes in vinyl records caused by heat, pressure, or improper storage.

We use a controlled, contactless heating system that brings the record to 58°C (136°F) — safely below the vinyl’s original pressing temperature of around 100°C — and holds it for a set duration. After that, we allow the disc to cool gradually back to room temperature, ensuring the grooves remain intact and the record retains its sonic integrity.

Our Flattening Method

Vinyl record flattening at The Groove Man is done with professional-grade gear and obsessive care.

We run each disc through the Furutech DF-2 vinyl flattener. It applies no direct heat to the grooves, and we often use paper shims to fine-tune pressure and surface contact. This ensures your record is treated with the same caution and respect we give our own pressings.

Each flattening cycle takes 4–5 hours, depending on warp severity. Some records may need multiple passes over 2–3 days. Discs with an even “dish” shape flatten best. Sharp kinks or edge warps? We're honest — those often can't be fully corrected, but we’re always willing to try.

What To Expect From The Service

Vinyl record flattening improves tracking, reduces tonearm skating, and restores confidence to your needle drop.

We straighten warped records using a controlled flattening process, but results vary depending on the severity and shape of the warp. Some vinyl may respond well, while others—especially those stretched or distorted—can’t return to a perfect shape. We handle every record with care, but outcomes aren’t guaranteed, and a slight change in roundness is a known risk we communicate upfront.

Vinyl Flattening Pricing

Vinyl record flattening is $10 AUD per disc.
Double LPs $20 AUD or multi-disc sets are charged per vinyl.

We don’t charge for failed attempts to flatten warped vinyl, but we’re transparent — the process takes time and care, and not every record can be saved.
