USB Audio Cables for Digital Source Connections
USB audio cables are commonly used to connect computers, music servers and network streamers directly to DACs or audio interfaces. Because the audio signal remains digital until conversion, the performance of a USB audio connection depends on stable data transfer, effective shielding and reliable signal integrity rather than analogue frequency response. In systems that use dedicated digital audio outputs rather than USB, S/PDIF cables are commonly used as an alternative digital connection method.
In an audio system, USB audio cables differ from other digital connections such as S/PDIF or AES-EBU, which transmit a continuous digital bitstream. USB audio uses asynchronous or adaptive data transfer modes, allowing compatible DACs to control timing and reduce jitter. USB audio cables are therefore selected based on system compatibility, connector type and intended digital playback use.
